Master of Biology
This full‑time research‑oriented English‑medium Master of Biology programme is operated by School of Life Sciences at Southern University of Science and Technology. This programme covers multiple core life‑science research domains including molecular‑and‑cell‑biology, genetics, neuro‑biology, developmental‑biology, microbiology, biochemistry, plant‑biology and biological‑omics‑analysis research. The training objective is to foster international‑oriented high‑level life‑science research‑talents, who systematically grasp modern biological theoretical‑knowledge, master standard molecular‑biology laboratory‑operation techniques, omics‑data‑analysis capacity, independent‑scientific‑research thinking and cross‑cultural academic‑exchange competence. Curriculum consists of advanced postgraduate core courses, disciplinary‑elective modules, frontier biological‑research academic seminars, laboratory rotation training, supervisor‑guided research‑project participation and master‑degree thesis research work. Core courses comprise Advanced Molecular‑Cell Biology, Advanced Biochemistry, Genetic‑Research Frontier, Omics‑Data Bioinformatics‑Analysis, Neuro‑biology Progress, Microorganism‑Research Advances, Life‑Science‑Research Methodology, Academic‑Manuscript‑Writing and Thesis‑Standardisation, plus serial seminars focusing on global cutting‑edge life‑science research hot‑spots. During three‑year full‑time study, students are required to finish all compulsory and elective course credits, participate in school‑level academic conferences, complete multi‑lab rotation practice, take part in principal‑investigator‑led biological‑research projects, and accumulate abundant wet‑lab experimental‑operation experience. Every enrolled master student will be matched with a faculty supervisor with long‑term high‑level life‑science‑project research achievements. Under supervisor guidance, students will accomplish international‑literature sorting, research‑hypothesis establishment, biological‑experiment‑scheme design, sample‑processing, experimental‑data‑collection‑and‑statistical‑analysis, research‑result‑summary‑and‑paper‑writing, and complete qualified original master‑graduation‑thesis. Applicants are required to provide authenticated bachelor‑degree certificate and complete official academic transcript issued by recognised higher‑education institutions. Applicants holding academic background in biology, biochemistry, molecular‑biology, biomedical‑science or other life‑science‑related disciplines will receive priority in admission assessment. Non‑native‑English‑speaking applicants need to submit valid English‑proficiency certification: IELTS overall score 6.5 (each sub‑score ≥6.0), TOEFL iBT ≥90. Applicants who previously completed full‑degree education taught entirely in English can apply for language‑score exemption with official supporting documents for university internal review. Applicants shall be under 35‑years‑old upon application, and satisfy physical‑and‑mental‑health medical‑examination criteria for Chinese student‑visa application. After satisfying all curriculum assessment standards and successfully passing master‑thesis defence, graduates will obtain official master‑degree diploma issued by Southern University of Science and Technology. Graduates can pursue research‑positions in international life‑science research institutes, bio‑pharmaceutical high‑tech enterprises, global biological‑resource‑conservation‑organisations, or further pursue PhD‑level academic‑study overseas.
