Master of International Chinese Language Education

This full‑time English‑taught Master of International Chinese Language Education postgraduate programme is hosted by the School of International Culture at South China Normal University, a key comprehensive normal university under the national “211 Project” and Double First‑Class construction list. Centered on the cultivation of high‑level international Chinese‑language educators and cross‑cultural communication specialists, this programme integrates theories of second‑language acquisition, Chinese linguistic research, intercultural communication theories, Chinese cultural inheritance and practical Chinese‑teaching competency training. It targets to cultivate international‑oriented compound talents who systematically master professional theories and practical skills of Chinese‑language international education, possess solid cross‑cultural analytical thinking, strong classroom‑teaching practice capability, global vision and intercultural‑communication competence, who can engage in overseas Chinese‑language teaching, international cultural exchange, educational‑administration and related comprehensive work in different countries and regions across the world. The curriculum framework consists of compulsory core modules, specialised elective modules and off‑campus teaching‑practice sessions. Core courses cover Second‑Language Acquisition Theory, Psychology of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Chinese Linguistics Research, Chinese Culture and Cross‑Cultural Communication, Modern Educational Technology for Language Teaching, Chinese‑Teaching Case Analysis and Classroom Practice, Chinese Traditional Culture and Art Research, Research Methods for Humanities and Thesis Writing, as well as thematic academic seminars focusing on hot‑spot issues in global Chinese‑language education. During the two‑year full‑time study cycle, students are required to complete all stipulated course credits, participate in regular academic lectures, thematic cultural‑experience activities organised by the School of International Culture, and complete supervised Chinese‑teaching internship practice. Every enrolled student will be assigned an experienced supervisor with long‑term research and practical experience in international Chinese‑language education field. Under supervisor’s guidance, students will conduct extensive literature review, classroom‑teaching observation, case‑study sorting, field‑practice investigation and independent academic research, and finally complete a qualified master graduation thesis. Applicants must provide authenticated bachelor’s degree certificate and complete official academic transcript issued by recognised higher‑education institutions; applicants with education, linguistics, literature or social‑science‑related background will receive priority consideration. Non‑native‑English applicants need to submit valid English‑proficiency certificates such as IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80; applicants who have completed full‑degree programmes delivered entirely in English can apply for language‑score exemption upon official university review. Applicants are expected to hold genuine interest in Chinese language and culture, and have basic awareness of cross‑cultural communication. After fulfilling all course‑credit requirements and successfully passing master‑thesis defence, graduates will obtain official master’s‑degree diploma issued by South China Normal University.
