About this program

What this degree covers and what you can expect from the university.

This full-time English-taught Master of Geodesy and Surveying Engineering programme is delivered by the State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing at Wuhan University, a world-renowned research institution in the field of geodesy and surveying engineering. The programme focuses on geodesy theory and technology, engineering surveying, satellite positioning and navigation, deformation monitoring and geodetic data processing. Major research directions include satellite geodesy and navigation, engineering surveying and deformation monitoring, geodetic data processing and analysis, physical geodesy, and geospatial datum construction. The programme aims to cultivate
high-level international talents in geodesy and surveying engineering, who master systematic theoretical knowledge, possess engineering design, field surveying, data analysis and project management capabilities. The curriculum includes advanced postgraduate core courses in geodesy and surveying engineering, characteristic elective modules, frontier academic seminars, laboratory experimental training, field surveying practice, supervisor-led research project participation and master thesis research work. Representative core courses include Advanced Geodesy, Satellite Positioning and Navigation, Engineering Surveying, Deformation Monitoring and Data Analysis, Geodetic Data Processing, Research Methodology and Technical Thesis Writing. During the 2-year full-time study, students need to complete all compulsory and elective credit requirements, participate in domestic and international academic conferences in the field, finish laboratory experimental training and field surveying practice, take part in faculty-managed
research projects and accumulate engineering practice experience. Every admitted student receives one-on-one academic supervision from faculty supervisors. Under supervisor guidance, students complete literature retrieval and review, research scheme design, experimental scheme debugging, field data collection and analysis, research-result sorting and academic-paper drafting, and finally complete original master thesis and pass thesis defence. Applicants shall provide authenticated bachelor-degree certificate and complete official academic transcript issued by accredited higher-education institutions. Applicants with geodesy, surveying engineering, geophysics or other related STEM backgrounds get priority in admission assessment. Non-native English-speaking applicants need valid English-proficiency certificates (IELTS 6.0 or above, TOEFL 80 or above). Applicants who have completed full-degree programmes fully delivered in English can apply for language-score exemption by submitting official supporting
documents for university internal review. Applicant age generally should not exceed 35 years old, and physical-mental health condition must satisfy medical-examination criteria for Chinese student-visa application. After finishing all curriculum assessment requirements and successfully passing thesis defence, graduates obtain official master-degree diploma awarded by Wuhan University. Graduates can engage in engineering surveying, satellite positioning and navigation, deformation monitoring, geodetic data processing work in global surveying and mapping enterprises, engineering construction institutions, research institutes, or pursue further PhD-level academic study worldwide.
