International Master of Chinese Law (IMCL, English‑taught)
This full‑time English‑taught International Master of Chinese Law program is delivered by the China‑EU School of Law (CESL) at China University of Political Science and Law, the pre‑eminent legal education institution widely known as “the cradle of Chinese legal education”. The program is specially designed for international students who hold law‑related bachelor qualifications and intend to systematically study Chinese legal system under an all‑English teaching environment. The curriculum covers core sectors of Chinese law, including Chinese civil and commercial law, constitutional and administrative law, criminal law, procedural law, foreign‑related economic law, together with comparative law theories. Students will receive systematic training on Chinese legal framework, legislative background, judicial practice and legal research methodology. Apart from classroom lectures, the program arranges practical activities such as court observation, law firm visits, legal case seminars and internship referral opportunities in Beijing‑based legal institutions. The teaching team consists of senior CUPL professors with international academic background and distinguished visiting scholars from European partner universities. Students are required to complete no less than 26 academic credits and submit a 20000‑word English‑language master thesis and pass thesis defense to obtain the LL.M degree conferred by China University of Political Science and Law. Applicants shall be non‑Chinese citizens holding valid passports and hold a recognized bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent legal qualification. Two academic recommendation letters from professors or associate‑professors, curriculum vitae and English‑written study plan are required for application. This English‑medium Master of Laws in Comparative Law program focuses on comparative legal research between Chinese legal system and major global legal systems, including civil‑law system, common‑law system and other regional legal regimes. Rooted in CUPL’s solid academic foundation in comparative law research, this program aims to cultivate international legal talents who are capable of conducting cross‑jurisdictional legal analysis, understanding legal culture differences and handling cross‑border legal affairs. Core curriculum modules include comparative constitutional law, comparative civil and commercial law, comparative criminal law, comparative procedural law, international comparative legal history, cross‑border human‑rights law and comparative legal methodology. The program adopts credit‑based teaching system, integrating theoretical lectures, comparative case workshops, academic seminars and research paper training. Students are guided to finish multiple research reports during their study period. Applicants shall be non‑Chinese citizens holding valid passports and hold a recognized bachelor’s degree; applicants with law‑related academic background are preferred.
