Who can apply and what academic or personal criteria you need to meet.

The eligibility criteria is as follows:

  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of a Commonwealth country other than Canada (Canadian citizens ineligible). 
    • Outstanding academic record; typically holding or applying for a relevant Master’s or PhD program.
    • Accepted or applied for at a Canadian academic institution.

Required to be nominated by a designating nominating agency in the home country (often Ministry of Education or similar).

The requirements are as follows:

  • Apply for admission to a Canadian university for the relevant academic program.
    • Initiate process through your country’s designated nominating body — they will coordinate nomination to Global Affairs Canada.

Submit required documents: academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, research proposals (for PhD), language proficiency (if required), etc. 

What is covered

Tuition, living costs, and other expenses included in this award.

The scholarship includes coverage for:

  • For short-term awards (4–6 months):
    • CAN $7,500 for four months
