About this program
What this degree covers and what you can expect from the university.
Master of Chemistry is a full‑time English‑medium academic master programme administered by the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at University of Science and Technology of China. Relying on USTC’s strong discipline strength in chemistry and material science, this programme supports multiple research branches including physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, polymer chemistry and new‑functional‑material chemistry. The programme integrates theoretical course learning, chemical‑laboratory practical training, frontier‑chemistry seminar sessions and long‑term supervised scientific‑research work. Students will master modern chemical‑experiment technologies, material‑characterisation testing methods, molecular‑simulation tools and academic‑literature‑retrieving capacities. Each student is assigned a supervisor, and will take part in ongoing laboratory research projects, explore scientific‑research questions in chemistry‑related areas, accumulate experimental‑operating experience and cultivate independent scientific‑thinking ability. Students are required to finish compulsory and elective course credits, attend academic seminars and research‑group meetings, complete original research work, compile master dissertation based on research outcomes and pass thesis defence to graduate. Graduates are suitable for further PhD study worldwide, as well as research‑and‑development positions in international chemical‑research institutes, new‑material enterprises, pharmaceutical‑research organisations and environmental‑technology‑related institutions.
