About this scholarship

What this award covers and who it is designed to support.

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) scholarship programme supports gifted students and doctoral candidates studying at German universities — with special focus on candidates who demonstrate social commitment and identify with the principles of social democracy. The programme provides a monthly stipend, health insurance support, family allowances when applicable, a structured seminar and mentoring programme, and access to the FES network. International applicants (from the Global South / Eastern Europe / post-Soviet states, etc.) are eligible but typically must already be enrolled at, or have been accepted by, a German university (or have a doctoral supervisor) at the time of application. Exact stipend levels, eligibility details and deadlines are administered by FES regional/country offices and may change year to year.
