The Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship supports highly talented international students by covering the premium between overseas and Home/EU tuition for PhD study. Each year, around 30 awards are available. The scholarship recognizes academic excellence and research promise, and is renewable for up to three years to support PhD completion.

Eligibility

Who can apply and what academic or personal criteria you need to meet.

The eligibility criteria is as follows:

  • Applicants must be international students liable for overseas fees.
    • Must apply for—or be admitted to—a full-time PhD program at Edinburgh.
    • Must show outstanding academic merit (typically a First-Class or high Upper Second-Class degree and preferably a strong Master’s).

Must not already hold a PhD or equivalent, and cannot receive other full scholarships concurrently (e.g., Commonwealth or Marshall).

  • Submit PhD application by the program deadline.
    • Apply for the scholarship via the MyEd/EUCLID portal.

The scholarship includes coverage for:

  • Covers the difference between overseas and Home/EU tuition fees (i.e. a fee waiver).
