Master in Public Policy and Innovative Governance

Master of International Affairs in Global Governance (MIA-GG)

This global governance program focuses on multilateral governance, global public goods, international security, digital governance and global development cooperation. It cultivates international talents who understand global governance rules and China’s role in global governance. Core courses include global governance theory, multilateral diplomacy, digital global governance, international development cooperation and global hotspot issue research. Teaching adopts academic seminars, policy simulation and international exchange activities, helping students master global governance analytical frameworks and cross-cultural negotiation capabilities. Graduates work in the United Nations, multilateral organizations, diplomatic institutions and global policy think tanks.

Master of Sociology

This English‑taught Master of Sociology (Anthropology) program is operated by the School of Social Development of East China Normal University. The program lays stress on cultural anthropology, urban‑social research and cross‑cultural comparative study, training international students to master anthropological theory and ethnographic field‑investigation skills. Core curriculum covers cultural anthropology classic theories, social anthropology, ethnographic research methodology, Chinese ethnic‑culture research, urban anthropology, migration‑society study, cross‑cultural comparison and qualitative social‑science research techniques. Teaching mode includes theoretical lectures, ethnographic‑case seminars, community‑based field‑investigation practice and academic workshops hosted by domestic and overseas anthropologists. Students are required to finish independent field‑investigation work and collect first‑hand social‑research materials during their study period. Applicants shall be non‑Chinese citizens holding valid passports and hold a recognized bachelor’s degree; social‑science‑related academic background is preferred. Two academic recommendation letters, curriculum vitae and English‑written study plan must be submitted for application. Admitted students must complete required course credits, finish field‑investigation assignments and submit a qualified English‑language master thesis and pass thesis defense to obtain the master degree. Graduates can take up working positions in international social‑research institutions, cross‑cultural non‑governmental organizations, cultural‑heritage‑related agencies and social‑policy‑research institutes worldwide.
