This full‑time English‑taught Master of Public Administration in Chinese Governance (MPA‑CG) is a special international postgraduate programme officially launched by Sun Yat‑sen University, targeting international practitioners, government officials and young professionals who intend to gain systematic knowledge of Chinese governance system, public policy making and China’s administrative practice. The programme lasts one academic year and is operated by the School of Government and School of Public Administration. The curriculum consists of core compulsory courses, thematic elective modules and field‑visit practice sessions. Core courses include Chinese Governance and Public Administration, Comparative Public Administration, Public Policy Analysis, Government and Market in China, Political Economy of China, Public Service Management, Governance of Mega‑cities, International Relations and China’s Foreign Policy, and Case Studies of Chinese Public Governance. Apart from classroom lectures, students are arranged to participate in field study visits to local government departments, community governance institutions and public‑service organisations across Guangdong Province, so as to obtain first‑hand practical experience of Chinese public administration. During the study period, students are required to complete sufficient course credits, take part in regular academic seminars, policy workshops and guest‑speaker forums hosted by the school. Every enrolled student will be assigned a professional supervisor with rich research experience in public administration and Chinese studies. Under supervisor’s guidance, students will conduct literature review, policy‑case analysis, complete research project training and finish a qualified master graduation thesis. Applicants must provide authenticated bachelor’s degree certificate and complete official academic transcript issued by recognised higher‑education institutions. Non‑native‑English applicants need to provide valid English proficiency proof such as IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80; applicants whose highest‑degree programme is delivered in English may be exempted from submitting language test scores with formal supporting documents. Applicants should have basic awareness of public administration discipline and competent English listening, speaking, reading and writing competence to adapt to all‑English teaching environment. Preference will be given to applicants with working experience in government, non‑profit organisation or international institutions. After fulfilling all course credit requirements and successfully passing master thesis defence, graduates will obtain official master’s degree diploma issued by Sun Yat‑sen University. Graduates can seek career opportunities in government agencies, international organisations, non‑government public‑service institutions, cross‑border consulting agencies and global public‑policy‑related organisations all over the world.
