Master of Petroleum and Natural‑Gas Engineering

This full‑time English‑taught Master of Petroleum and Natural‑Gas Engineering programme is delivered by College of Petroleum Engineering at China University of Petroleum (East China). As a discipline with outstanding domestic and international influence, petroleum engineering focuses on oil‑gas reservoir 
development, drilling engineering, production engineering and oil‑gas field system engineering. The programme keeps pace with global energy‑industry development trends, combining theoretical teaching, laboratory experiment and field practice training. Major research directions include oil‑gas well drilling theory and technology, reservoir development engineering, oil‑gas production engineering, unconventional oil‑gas resource exploitation, offshore petroleum engineering. The programme aims to cultivate high‑level international engineering talents who master systematic petroleum engineering theoretical knowledge, possess engineering design, experimental analysis, project practice and scientific‑research innovation capabilities, as well as good cross‑cultural academic communication competence. The curriculum includes advanced postgraduate core engineering courses, discipline‑specific elective modules, energy‑industry frontier academic seminars, laboratory experimental training, field site visiting practice, supervisor‑led 
research‑project participation and master thesis research work. Representative core courses include Advanced Drilling Engineering, Reservoir Numerical Simulation, Unconventional Oil‑Gas Development, Offshore Petroleum Engineering, Energy Research Methodology and Technical Thesis Writing. During three‑year full‑time study, students need to finish all compulsory and elective credit requirements, take part in energy‑industry academic conferences and technical workshops, complete laboratory experimental training and oil‑gas‑field site investigation, participate in faculty‑managed petroleum‑research projects and accumulate sufficient engineering‑practice experience. Every admitted student receives one‑on‑one academic supervision from faculty supervisors. Under supervisor guidance, students complete literature retrieval and review, research scheme design, experimental scheme debugging, test‑data collection and analysis, research‑result sorting and academic‑paper drafting, and finally complete original master graduation thesis and 
pass thesis defence. Applicants shall provide authenticated bachelor‑degree certificate and complete official academic transcript issued by accredited higher‑education institutions. Applicants with petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering or other energy‑related STEM backgrounds get priority in admission assessment. Non‑native English‑speaking applicants need valid English‑proficiency certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL. Applicants who have completed full‑degree programmes fully delivered in English can apply for language‑score exemption by submitting official supporting documents for university internal review. Applicant age generally should not exceed 35 years old, and physical‑mental health condition must satisfy medical‑examination criteria for Chinese student‑visa application. After finishing all curriculum assessment requirements and successfully passing thesis defence, graduates obtain official master‑degree diploma awarded by China University of Petroleum (East China). Graduates can engage in 
petroleum‑resource development, oil‑gas‑field engineering technical work within global energy enterprises, energy‑research institutes, oil‑gas engineering institutions, or pursue further PhD‑level academic study worldwide.
