About this program

What this degree covers and what you can expect from the university.

The Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS), successfully hosted a summer school on its Budapest campus between 21 and 25 June 2025.

  • The five-day event focused on topics such as exercise and epigenetics, skeletal muscle aging, mitochondrial morphology and life cycle, limits of VO₂ max, and exercise-induced oxidative stress.
  • Distinguished lecturers included Professor Scott Powers, Professor Li Li Ji, Professor David Hood, and Professor Zsolt Radak, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at Hungarian University of Sports Science.
  • A total of 26 participants took part in the event, representing countries such as China, India, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, Albania, Kenya, Indonesia, Romania, and Hungary.

SCOTT K. POWERS
Renowned for his extensive research in exercise physiology, particularly in oxidative stress and muscle function. Author of the book: Exercise Physiology, Theory and Application to Fitness and Performance by McGraw Hill publisher. Check out his biography here

LI LI JI
Professor Li Li Ji is a leading expert in muscle physiology, specializing in biochemical and molecular exercise physiology, nutrition, and aging. His work focuses on the balance of free radicals and antioxidants and their impact on health. Check out his biography here.

DAVID HOOD
Professor at York University and Director of the Muscle Health Research Centre. His research delves into mitochondrial adaptations and the role of exercise in muscle health. He is one of the most well-known scientists in mitochondrial-related research. Check out his biography here.

ZSOLT RADAK
Professor and Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation at HUSS, and professor at Waseda University. He is known for his research on oxidative stress, hormesis, DNA-methylation-associated aging, and the molecular mechanisms of systemic exercise-induced adaptation. Short intensive summer course (4 ECTS credits) offered both in-person in Budapest and online via live stream. Pricing: In-person regular €700 / student rate €500; Online regular €300 / student rate €200. Includes lectures, interactive workshops, poster presentations, grant writing masterclass, welcome dinner, and a Budapest walking tour for in-person attendees.
